Note: There is no more Artist space available for Otakuthon Home 2021.
Welcome to the 2nd edition of Otakuthon At Home!
Once again, Otakuthon will be offering virtual artist spaces in the Artists’ Area. Whether you’re a new or veteran artist, Otakuthon is delighted to welcome you to come demonstrate your artistic talents and showcase your amazing works! We hope to work together to bring fun and wonderful experience to you, our beloved artists and the attendees.
Please read all the information below to know more about the virtual artist spaces and if you meet all the requirements. If you do, apply fast because we only have a limited number of spaces!
For more information, please contact artistsarea@otakuthon.com.
Space: 1 Artist Space **
Registration Cost*:
*All rates are in Canadian dollars and include taxes.
** The Artist space includes a souvenir artist badge if the space was confirmed and paid before the deadlines.
2.1 All Artists are limited to the registration and purchase of one space only. In addition, they cannot register for an Artist space AND a Dealer space.
2.2 Each Artist MUST have their own store website or an online shop platform (i.e, Etsy, Shopify, Paypal Store, etc.) to be able to register. Any Artist found not having a proper online store will not qualify and/or lose their space.
2.3 Artists must be aged 16 years and older during the convention. Selling mature content is permitted as long as it is not advertised in the portfolio of the Artist Space due to possible presence of minor attendees. However, please add a disclaimer if there will be mature content in the store website.
2.4 Artists must own the rights to the works they are selling. Proxies aka “third-party resellers” will not be allowed due to circumstances of the virtual convention.
3.1 Each Artist space is created with a login artist account. This account allows access to the rest of the virtual convention, so artists can also enjoy the other events.
3.2 All Artists will be featured as a grid in the virtual Artist’s Area. When an artist logo is clicked on, the attendees will be redirected to their Artist Space. The Artist Space is a page showing an artist table where artists will be able to add their logo, portfolio, website link and social media links if any.
3.3 The artists will need to design and provide a portfolio to showcase samples of the artwork. See the FAQ for details.
3.4 The artists will be able to chat online with attendees and fellow artists to discuss about their work and sale. Artists can also use the chat function to request help from staff.
4.1 Registration (closed)
There is a limited amount of Artist Spaces, and placement of artist spots will be randomized. Registration is open from July 2, 2021, at 7:00 PM to July 6, 2021, at 7:00 PM (EDT) or until all spaces are filled.
To register as an artist, please fill out our Artists Registration Form 2021 (registration is closed). Please have the following information on hand when the time comes to fill the application:
4.2 Payment
Due to the COVID-19 situation, the only accepted payment option will be via Paypal. The payment request will be sent to the Artist’s email after they have been confirmed a virtual artist space.
Any cash or cheque payments delivered to the Otakuthon Office will be refused as the office is closed for an indefinite time until the Quebec Government gives further notice/law regarding the COVID-19 measures in place.
4.3 Refunds and Cancellation
If the Artist no longer wishes to keep their virtual artist space, please contact the Artists’ Area Director at artistsarea@otakuthon.com as soon as possible. A 50% refund will be provided for any cancellations made before July 31, 2021. Any cancellation made after August 1, 2021, will be non refundable.
See FAQ for special circumstances.
No. Artists are not permitted to register and purchase more than one space. Artists are also only limited to the registration of an artist space. Artists are not permitted to register for a Dealer space. Applicants found to be applying for both an artist space AND a Dealer space will have their registration refused.
Please do not resubmit the form. Contact the Artists’ Area Team at artistsarea@otakuthon.com with the corrections.
No. There is only one model for all artist space. However, the artists can customize, to a certain degree, the five panels within the artist space: 1 banner for artist name/shop name, 1 centerpiece for portfolio, 1 banner for website link and social media links, and 2 additional panels at the artist’s disposal. It may be possible to add a background colour within the panels if the image provided does not fit the whole frame.
The purpose of the portfolio is to showcase the artist’s work within the online platform. It can be pictures of their art and craft, with or without text, and in the format of a PowerPoint or PDF document. There is no limit to the number of pages, but the whole file should be no more than 25 MB (or 25,000 KB). Apart from these rules, the design is entirely up to the artist.
Note: No mature or adult content is allowed in the portfolio. Please place a disclaimer in the portfolio if there is mature content on your website.
Materials depicting partial nudity or sexual acts, or other forms of mature material are permitted to be sold but must not be displayed unless they are covered sufficiently or hidden from the view of minors. This includes but is not limited to prints, commissions, pins, buttons, and crafts.
Any adult materials (rated 18+) are not allowed to be sold in the virtual convention as there is no measure in place to control minor accounts at the moment. Otakuthon will not be held responsible if you sell 18+ materials. Reminder: IT IS A CRIMINAL OFFENSE TO SHOW PORNOGRAPHIC MATERIAL TO MINORS.
Please have your logo, portfolio, banners and ideas for the additional panels ready as soon as possible after receiving the space confirmation email. There will be a deadline to submit them and have them uploaded. The exact date will be confirmed by email from the Artist’s Area Team.
Artists will be able to talk with attendees in real time in a public chat box, with option of private or group chat. However, there is no call option available for this year’s edition, and the chat function is moved to another section (it is no longer displayed beside the portfolio).
Otakuthon At Home wants to recreate a unique virtual convention that can provide a similar experience of going to a convention despite the pandemic. To achieve this, Otakuthon did not choose to use free-to-use platforms. The fee, already at the minimum, is to help fund the expenses to provide better services for the exhibitors and attendees.
A 50% refund will be provided for any cancellations made before July 31, 2021. Any cancellation made after Aug 1, 2021, will be non refundable.
