Volunteering
Otakuthon is a non-profit organization fully run by fans who give their time freely to make the event a success. While everyone is essentially a volunteer, from a hiring perspective we use the following two labels, each coming with different responsibilities, requirements and benefits:
- Staff: People who take on the responsibility of making the convention happen before and during Otakuthon weekend, depending on their role.
- Volunteer: Basic volunteering level, taking on tasks which can be done by anyone during the week of the convention.
Further details on each are provided below.
Staff
Staff are people who take on a specialized role, in both administrative and operational aspects, that help make the convention run smoothly. They are passionate about what they do and invest their free time in different departments and divisions.
In exchange for their tasks, volunteering staff members are provided various benefits, but most treat these as a bonus, rather than the reason they are giving their time. You can say the reward itself is the sense of accomplishment from working together in making Otakuthon happen!
Volunteers
Volunteers take care of general miscellaneous tasks that are done at-con, without having a fixed position in a single specialty. They are our staff’s extra set of eyes and hands during the convention.
Volunteers are required to be preregistered as an attendee. The amount of hours of volunteering they’ve completed helps refund a portion up to the full purchase cost of their badge as well as their own rewards track. Volunteers can enjoy greater flexibility to enjoy the convention to its fullest.
